‘We hope Kamal Haasan really assumes a Vishwaroop’

While most actors prefer being action or romantic heroes, you have chosen the comedian way to heroship. How did this happen?

I used to act alongside veteran character-cum-comedy actor late Nagesh in the dramas of Sri Lankan Radio. Further, I have inherent funny bone. This has helped me to excel as a hero having comedy sense.

You chaired the censor board’s southern region for some time. What is your take on the controversy over Vishwaroopam?

The protest against Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam was only for its Tamil version. This is nothing but reflection of a certain section of society which claims to be moral police and a culture of “competitive intolerance”. Now, the problem has been amicably solved... We hope Haasan really takes a Vishwaroop.

Why are more Tamil directors shooting in Gujarat?

Gujarat has many attractive tourist spots and the state government has been extending a helping hand to film-makers from all over the country.

How do you see Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi?

I am a former AIADMK MLA and now a Congressman. Narendra Modi has been my bosom friend for over five years. He is the country’s best CM and an asset for the country. He is the most secular politician I have ever met in the country.
