Recently, La Trobe University, Australia, strengthened its links with Indian institutes by signing MoUs and exchange agreements with JSS University, Mysore, and Cummins College, Pune. The La Trobe delegation was headed by Liz Stinson, executive director, La Trobe International. In an interaction with FE’s Vikram Chaudhary, she shares that these tie-ups will focus on benefiting students. She also tells that Indian students can now be a part of research projects which will be developed among La Trobe and partner institutes. Excerpts:

During the Victorian Super Trade mission in February 2012, La Trobe University signed MoUs with Mahindra Reva, HCL, BITS Pilani and Delhi Technological University. What’s new this time?

The February delegation was headed by Professor John Dewar, vice-chancellor and president, La Trobe University, and the mission was led by the Victorian Premier, Ted Baillieu. La Trobe has been quite active in establishing partnerships with leading Indian institutes so that students can make the most of it. This time, I am confident that our new agreements with JSS University, Pune, and Cummins College, Pune, which we have signed during this visit, will benefit both Indian and Australian students in various ways.

What will these agreements focus on?

While we have signed a student exchange agreement with JSS University, Mysore; with Cummins College we are developing an articulation arrangement for various under-graduate and post-graduate courses where Cummins College students will get credits while studying at their college and which can use to successfully enrol in our programmes. After initial studies at Cummins, students can complete their courses at La Trobe University.

In which all streams?

We will initially start with information technology and computer sciences, and later think of more streams that can be developed for the same.
