‘Govt wasting money through Mamata adverts’

Former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattcharjee on Tuesday attacked the Trinamool Congress government for wasting tax payers’ money by putting up huge banners and hoardings carrying Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s photograph. Slamming the chief minister for running the government as if she is running a club, the senior CPM leader said: “Crores of rupees are being spent on these advertisements despite the fact that the state government is under serious financial crunch.” He was speaking at a public rally at Bakhrahat in South 24-Parganas.

“We have never seen and experienced that a government is spending public money for the party’s campaign and for setting up large banners and hoardings of the CM. The government is giving full page advertisements everyday in newspapers and running advertisements on TV channels with her photo. At a time when the CM is claiming that she does not have enough money to run the state, she is donating money to 2,400 clubs in the state. She is yet to understand that running a club and running a state are not the same thing,” said Bhattacharjee.

He reiterated that no investment came to the state during the Trinamool’s 18-month rule. “Singur has turned into a graveyard. The Trinamool drove out the Tatas along with 56 companies of ancillary units. At least 10,000 youths of the area could have been employed in the factories. There is no ray of hope in the area,” he said.
