‘Compensate doc’s loss, recover money from Sena’

Demanding compensation for Dr Abdul Gaffar A S Dhada for damage caused to his clinic by vandals in Palghar following a Facebook comment by his niece, a team of NGO Citizens for Justice and Peace on Wednesday met Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and asked him to recover the amount from the Shiv Sena to set an example.

“To set an example, the compensation for damaging the clinic should be recovered from the Shiv Sena, as senior Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut had defended the unlawful and illegal actions,” a Citizens for Justice memorandum to the CM stated.

The clinic was attacked after Dr Dhada’s niece Shaheen Dhada and her friend Rinu Srinivasan posted comments on Facebook following the death of Bal Thackeray.

The Citizens for Justice also demanded a thorough probe into the attack.

Teesta Setalvad, Anil Dharker, Javed Anand and Raghunandan Maluste submitted the memorandum to Chavan on behalf of the NGO.

The delegation also raised the matter of the arrest of Shaheen and Rinu for the FB posts and stressed the need of training cops to update them with laws.

Dharker, said, “We commended the prompt action of suspending both the Superintendant of Police and the inspector in charge of the police station. We pointed out to the CM various issues regarding the Palghar Facebook row. According to us there was nothing remotely offensive about the Facebook post. The CM assured us that the matter will be looked into. We hope the investigation is thorough and the case proceeds promptly to
