In a good news to Central Government employees and pensioners, the PM Narendra Modi led government has increased the dearness allowance and dearness relief. According to a press statement released, Cabinet has approved the release of additional 1% Dearness Allowance to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief to pensioners. It will come into effect from 01.07.2017 (1st July 2017), the statement added.

“The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval for release of additional 1% Dearness Allowance (DA) to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners. It will be applicable from 01.07.2017,” the PIB statement said.

“The release of the additional instalment of DA represents an increase of 1% over the existing rate of 4% of the Basic Pay/Pension, to compensate for price rise. This increase is in accordance with the accepted formula, which is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission,” it added.

According to the statement, “The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both DA and DR would be Rs.3068.26 crore per annum and Rs.2045.50 crore in the financial year 2017-18 (for a period of 8 months from July, 2017 to February, 2018).”

The decision will benefit about 49.26 lakh Central Government employees and 61.17 lakh pensioners, as per the statement.

Modiji and Mr. Jaitleyji, are you sure that these will you ensure your sticking to seat after 2019 victory? Are you aware that Petrol price is touching almost Rs.100/- p.ltr? child's death to all premium govt. hospitals in several states having your government, lower GDP, most shocking growth rate in manufacturing sectors all time low for last over a decade? Are you aware how common man is living their lives when for last more than 5 years severe scarcity in employments even for highly educated persons are seeking Gr. IV staff job in government sector? Only growth in lectures does'nt help, it should be visible also.

Pensioners or family pensioners who basic pension is less than Rs.22000-Rs.23000 don’t get much benefit from this decision. All those whose basic pension is less than Rs.22000 should be given more benefit in terms of dearness allowance, at least 2 on every occasion. In present economic situation where price rise, decrease in interest on savings fixed deposit is un-controllable, this meagre increase cannot be applauded.

The author is living under a rock to not know the simmering discontent with New DA formula resulting in meagre DA rises ever since 7th CPC. Govt Employees including Armed Forces getting hikes of 1 and 2 in the last two years againt the 5-7 which was the norm in pre 7th CPC era. Long term implications of new DA formula too advers as several allowances are hiked only when DA breaches thresholds like 25 and 50 . The headlines sounded sarcastic and "rubbing it in" type
