Sensex ends 35 points up, Nifty settles above 8,800; ICICI Bank, Heritage Foods gain

The BSE Sensex closed 35.47 points, or 0.12 per cent, up at 28634.50, while Nifty settled 28.75 points, or 0.33 per cent, up at 8,808.60. In the 50-share index, IndusInd Bank, Aurobindo Pharma, TCS, Tata Power and Ambuja Cement gained between 1.97 per cent and 2.89 per cent. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto, Axis Bank, Hero MotoCorp and HDFC Bank slipped between 0.59 per cent and 1.44 per cent.

3.22 pm: Meanwhile, IL&FS Transportation Networks shares hit their fresh 52-week of Rs 108.70. The scrip was trading 12.77 per cent up at Rs 106.85.

3.14 pm: Murudeshwar Ceramics shares breached upper circuit limit and surged 19.97 per cent to Rs 35.75.

3.08 pm: The BSE Midcap index and BSE Smallcap index were trading 0.61 per cent and 0.61 per cent up at 13129.63 and 12842.60, respectively. Sensex was trading 30.77 points up at 28629.80.

2.29 pm: GVK Power was trading 7.37 per cent up at 6.99. Sensex was up 70.42 points at 28669, while Nifty was trading 35.55 points up at 8,815.

2.22 pm: South Indian Bank shares were trading 0.63 per cent down at Rs 23.50. Read more

1.55 pm: Sensex was trading 35.46 points up at 28634. Nifty was up 25.20 points at 8,805.

1.19 pm: ICICI Prudential Life Insurance IPO subscribed 7 per cent on the first day of offer till 1 pm. Sensex was trading 78 points up at 28,676.

12.23 pm: MMTC is aiming to sell 700 kg of Indian gold coins in the upcoming festive season. With prices of gold appreciating 25 per cent since the beginning of 2016, the state-run firm has stepped up production of the national coin at the government mint in Mumbai. Shares of the company were trading 0.98 per cent down at Rs 45.65.

12.18 pm: IFCI has inked a share purchase agreement (SPA) with Axis Bank for disinvesting its entire stake in Assets Care and Reconstruction Enterprise (ACRE) (73,28,334 number of equity shares constituting 13.67 per cent of the total outstanding shares) of face value of Rs 10 per share to Axis Bank, resulting in total cash consideration of Rs 22.72 crore. Shares of the company were trading 1.96 per cent up at Rs 28.60.

11.41 am: ICICI Prudential Life Insurance IPO subscribed 3 per cent on the first day of offer till 11.30.

10.44 am: Sensex was trading 84.34 points up at 28683.37. Nifty was up 34.50 points at 8,814.35. In the 50-share index, Tech Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Coal India, ONGC and ACC were up between 0.89 per cent and 1.37 per cent. On the other hand, Bharti Infratel, Maruti Suzuki, Axis Bank, Bosch and Infosys were down between 0.78 per cent and 1.12 per cent.

9.33 am: Shares of Vipul were trading 10.29 per cent up at Rs 82.40. The company has received Environmental Clearance from State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Haryana for its project ‘Aarohan’ on Golf Course Road in Gurgaon. By June 2016, the company had already sold more than 26 per cent of flats in Phase 1 of the project. Further, the company had raised debt from DMI Finance (DMI) to the tune of Rs 175 crore. The money raised was utilised towards pre-operative expenses of Project Aarohan. With permissions now in place and construction likely to commence soon, the company has received sanction for a loan of Rs 275 crore from PNB Housing Finance at an average rate of 13.35 per cent per annum. Part of the amount raised from PNB Housing Finance will be utilised towards pre-payment of the debt from DMI, resulting in interest and cash flow savings. Sensex was down 29.81 points at 28569. Nifty was up 10.50 points at 8,790.

9.28 am: Shares of Unitech were trading 1.40 per cent up at Rs 6.53. The company has sold 2 million square feet of area amounting to Rs 362 crore during the quarter ended June 30, compared with the year-ago period, on account of higher volumes in the commercial segment. The company had sold 0.23 million square feet area for Rs 178 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

9.17 am: The 30-share index was trading 60.32 points, or 0.21 per cent, up at 28659.35. ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, GAIL and Tata Motors were trading higher by 1.51 per cent, 1.43 per cent, 1.04 per cent, 0.91 per cent, respectively. Nifty was trading 15.85 points up at 8795.70.

9.15 am: The BSE Sensex opened 27.57 points, or 0.10 per cent, up at 28626, while Nifty 50 index opened 8.60 points up at 8788.45.

Pre-markets

Domestic benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty are likely to open on a flat note tracking global cues. US markets lost ground on Friday but closed positive for the week. The Dow Jones industrial Average index dipped by 88.68 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 18,123.80 on Friday. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index slipped 8.10 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 2,139.16. The Nasdaq Composite index lost 5.12 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 5,244.57. According to Angel Broking, investors cut positions due to negative sentiment from higher than expected consumer prices for the month of August. Gold and airline indices were the losers for the session, posting losses of around 2 per cent and 1.9 per cent respectively.

European markets closed lower on Friday after financial closed sharply lower for the day. Deutsche Bank fell nearly 8 per cent after news that the US Department of Justice would fine the bank $3.4 bn due to its role in mis-selling mortgage backed securities. Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) dropped nearly 4.6 per cent to make it the FTSE’s biggest faller, while Barclays (BARC) and Standard Chartered (STAN) both fell 2.5 per cent.

The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty closed higher for a third consecutive session on Friday. Sensex closed 186.14 points up at 28599.03, while Nifty 50 index closed 37.30 points up at 8779.85.
