India produced 8.1 MT steel in August, clocking 9.4% growth over the same month last year. The growth rate is the highest among major steel producing nations, World Steel Association (WSA) data showed.
China, the largest producer in the world, produced more than half of world’s 134.12 MT steel output in the last month. Clocking a growth of 3%, China produced 68.5 MT steel in August.
Japan produced 8.9 MT registering a growth of 1.5% over the same month last year. Among the major producing nations, US produced 6.7 MT, Russia 5.9 MT and South Korea 5.8 MT.
Overall, the world’s production grew by 1.9% during August this year compared to the same month last year.
In the EU, Germany produced 3.5 MT steel in August, an increase of 2.4% compared to the same month last year. Italy produced 1.1 MT, up by 7.4%. Turkey’s crude steel production for August was 2.9 MT, up by 12.9%.
Currently the third largest steel producer in the world, India’s production has been growing constantly since the beginning of the current year. During the first eight months of the current year, India’s production growth has been the highest at 5.6%.
