Wedding brigade raises $1 million from Blume Ventures and others

Mumbai-based wedding portal, The Wedding Brigade,  has raised $1 million in a Pre-Series A round of funding led by Blume Ventures. The other participating  investors include Czar Capital, Mountain Pine Capital, Lets Venture investors and the Keiretsu Forum. Prior to this round, The Wedding Brigade had raised Rs 4 crores in 2016 led by Blume Ventures. The Wedding Brigade aims to build India’s leading wedding brand by delivering curated and easy-to-access content, products and services pan-India and internationally; The company claims to be growing its revenue by over 4x last year.

Sanna Vohra, the Founder & CEO said, “The multi-billion dollar Indian wedding industry has incredible potential, but must be tackled keeping in mind its complexities. Since our inception, our mission has been to create a seamless content-to-commerce platform where our consumers can find ideas, plan their weddings, and make all their purchases and bookings on a single platform. This year, we aim to delve deeper into our top-performing divisions and focus on vertical integration. The industry is at an extremely exciting threshold, and we are looking forward to being on the forefront of it with the support and encouragement from our consumers, stakeholders and investors.”

Users can browse wedding inspiration and read original content on their wedding blog, buy wedding-related products like clothing, costume jewelry, and gifts, and book wedding-related services such as venues, photographers, make-up artists and more. They deliver their products pan-India and have recently started international delivery. Currently their wedding services platform is active in Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, and Goa. They have also launched betas of their iOS and Android social wedding apps which let users invite guests, make announcements, share photos and more.

According to Sajid Fazalbhoy, Principal at Blume Ventures, “While we continue to see the rise in the market size and potential of the Indian wedding industry, we also see the need-gap arising from such a fragmented market. It is this need-gap that led us to The Wedding Brigade a few years ago and we are extremely happy and bullish about the way it continues to address this gap. We see The Wedding Brigade as a great partner at the helm of the next leap in the Indian wedding industry, backed by a driven team, keen focus on consumer delight, and data-driven technology.”

The Wedding Brigade (previously known as Indear.in) began in November 2014 in Mumbai, and is a content, shopping and services platform for Indian weddings. TWB aims to use the funds from this round towards expanding their team & business verticals, strengthening their community, and introducing an array of new products and services to the market.
