Market benchmark Sensex erased its early gains to end marginally lower at 29,894.80 today amid a sell-off in pharma and metal stocks.
The 30-share index resumed higher at 29,984.95 and quickly reclaimed the 30,000-mark to hit a high of 30,020.59. However, it fell to 29,846.57 on profit-booking, before ending at 29,894.80, showing a loss of 26.38 points or 0.09 per cent.
The 50-share NSE Nifty moved down by 1.85 points or 0.02 per cent to 9,311.95 after shuttling between 9,346.30 and 9,298.40.
A total of 12 scrips in the 30-share Sensex pack ended higher, while 17 scrips fell and one remained unchanged.

Major gainers on the Sensex were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd up 2.31% at Rs 210.75; Tata Consultancy Services up 1.98% at Rs 2,337.40; Infosys up 1.59% at Rs 935.65; Coal India Ltd up 1.49% at Rs 279.35; Hindustan Unilever Ltd up 0.71% at Rs 935.30 and Bajaj Auto Ltd up 0.59% at Rs 934.15.
Major losers were Lupin Ltd down 3.09% to Rs 1,264.20; ICICI bank down 1.16% at Rs 272.75; Tata Motors down 1.11% at Rs 446.65; Tata Steel down 1.03% at Rs 440.65; Adani Ports down 0.95% at Rs 327.55 and Axis Bank down 0.88% at Rs 500.70.
The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 4,233.49 crore, lower than Rs 4,336.14 crore registered during the previous trading session. Market breadth remained negative as 1,531 stocks closed in the negative, 1,318 stocks finished higher and 157 remained unchanged.
The total market cap of BSE Sensex was Rs 50.4379 lakh crore. The Price to Earnings (PE) multiple of the Sensex stood at 22.69 while its Price to Book value (PB) multiple was at 2.93 and the Dividend Yield was at 1.39.
