Sensex closes 67 points up, Nifty ends 28 points higher

Sensex had opened 0.25% higher at 29,915.12 tracking a higher positive handover from Wall Street on Friday and reports that Emmanuel Macron is set to be elected as the new French President.

The 51-share NSE Nifty gained 28.75 points or 0.31 per cent to close at 9,314.05 points as it pared off early marginal gains, due to positive global cues, later during the day.

Market benchmark Sensex gained 67.35 points or 0.23% today to end at 29,926.15 gaining marginally from a positive opening. Sensex had opened 0.25% higher at 29,915.12 tracking a higher positive handover from Wall Street on Friday and reports that Emmanuel Macron is set to be elected as the new French President. The 51-share NSE Nifty gained 28.75 points or 0.31 per cent to close at 9,314.05 points as it pared off early marginal gains, due to positive global cues, later during the day.

A total of 20 stocks in the 30-share Sensex ended higher, while 10 stocks fell. On the 51-share Nifty, 33 stocks ended higher, while 18 scrips fell.

Major gainers on the Sensex were Lupin up 2.32% at Rs 1,279.55; Bharti Airtel up 1.91% at Rs 351.25; Asian Paints up 1.81% at Rs 1166.90; ICICI Bank up 1.59% at Rs 303.30; ONGC up 1.53% at Rs 186.20 and Infosys up 1.50% at Rs 945.45.

Major losers were ITC down 1.48% to Rs 272.95; HDFC down 1.08% at Rs 1,529.80; Bajaj Auto down 0.94% at Rs 2,863.00; Larsen and Toubro down 0.94% at Rs 1,708.65; Adani Ports down 0.75% at Rs 342.30 and Reliance Industries down 0.50% at Rs 1,321.95.

The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 3,208.30 crore for today’s trading session. Market breadth turned positive as 1,619 stocks soared during today’s trading session, 1,151 stocks closed lower and 190 remained unchanged. The total market capitalization of BSE Sensex was Rs 50.2638 lakh crore. The Price to Earnings (PE) multiple of the Sensex stood at 22.58 while its Price to Book value (PB) multiple was at 2.91 and the Dividend Yield was at 1.39.
