Sensex closed 51.66 points down at 28926.36, while Nifty 50 index settled 20.15 points down at 8922.85. In the 50-share index, BHEL, Bank of Baroda, ONGC, State Bank of India and ICICI Bank gained between 1.93 per cent and 15.75 per cent. On the other hand, YES Bank, Asian Paints, GAIL, Tech Mahindra and HDFC slid between 1.69 per cent and 2.43 per cent.
3.02 pm: SpiceJet shares were trading 8.52 per cent up at Rs 61.15 ahead of Q1 results. Sensex was trading 23.06 points down at 28954. Nifty was down 16.50 points at 8,926.
2.16 pm: Sensex was trading 27.25 points up at 29,005. BHEL was trading 13.88 per cent up post Q1 results. For the quarter ended June 30, 2016, BHEL reported 54.21 rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 77.77 crore against net profit of Rs 50.43 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.
2 pm: ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company received markets regulator Sebi’s approval to raise an estimated Rs 5,000 crore through an initial public offering. Varun Beverages, franchisee for soft drinks maker PepsiCo, has received markets regulator Sebi’s approval to raise over Rs 1,000 crore through an initial public offering, while logistics service and solutions provider Seaways Shipping & Logistics has also got Sebi’s nod to float an IPO. Sensex was trading 40.90 points up at 29,018.92, while NSE Nifty was trading 6.50 points up at 8,949.50.
1.27 pm: Oil India shares were trading 1.53 per cent up at Rs 395.20 despite the company posting 33.48 per cent fall in its net profit at Rs 494.41 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 as compared to Rs 743.21 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. Sensex was trading 4.50 points up at 28,982.52, while NSE Nifty was trading 3.60 points up at 8,939.40.
1.04 pm: Bhel shares were trading lower ahead of its financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 to be announced later in the day. Sensex was up 22.42 points at 29000.44

11.59 am: Nifty Bank index was trading 90.55 points up at 20516.75. Banking majors such as Punjab National Bank, Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda and State Bank of India were trading higher by 6.25 per cent, 5.94 per cent, 3.22 per cent and 2.70 per cent, respectively. ICICI Bank was up 1.17 per cent.
11.57 am: Tata Motors’ subsidiary — Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has reported its best ever August retail sales of 36,926 vehicles, up 26% compared to August 2015. The month’s performance has been driven by strong sales of the Land Rover Discovery Sport, the Jaguar F-PACE and XE. Jaguar Land Rover sold 372,978 vehicles in the first eight months of 2016, 24% up on the same period in the prior year. Shares of Tata Motors were trading 0.21 per cent up at Rs 590.60. Sensex was trading 25.78 points up at 29003. Nifty was down 2.20 points at 8,940.

9.34 am: Engineers India (EIL) has signed a contract with Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) – largest refiner of the country, for providing Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) services for implementing BS VI quality up-gradation program at its six refinery locations – Panipat, Mathura, Gujarat, Halida, Bongaigaon and Digboi Refinery. Shares of the company were trading 0.72 per cent up at Rs 271.10. Sensex was down 31.16 points at 28946. Nifty was down 15.75 points at 8927.25.

9.15 am: Domestic equity markets opened higher on Wednesday tracking mixed global cues. Sensex opened 57.65 points up at 29035.67, while Nifty 50 index opened 25.70 points up at 8,968.70. On Tuesday, Sensex surged by 446 points and hit a nearly 17-month high of 28,987.02. The total market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies on Tuesday surged to a lifetime high of over Rs 112 lakh crore, driven by robust stock market sentiment.
