Sensex ends 259 points up on GST hopes amid F&O expiry, Nifty settles at 8,287; Uttam Galva surges 13 per cent

CLOSING BELL

The BSE Sensex and NSE ended the day in green on account of firm global cues amid June derivatives expiry. Sensex closed 259.33 points up at 26999.72, while Nifty settled 83.75 points up at 8,287.75.

In the 50-share index, BHEL, Grasim, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Axis Bank and Tata Steel gained between 3 per cent and 5.05 per cent. On the other hand, Sun Pharma, Infosys, Bosch, Cipla and Gail slid between 0.08 per cent and 0.76 per cent.

The initial public offer of Quess Corp has been oversubscribed 1.16 times till the afternoon trade on the second day of the 3-day bidding.

Sectorwise, the BSE Realty index, Power index and Telecom index gained 2.3 per cent, 2.19 per cent and 2.08, respectively. Rest all other indices on BSE also ended higher on Thursday.

Asian peers also closed mostly higher on Thursday, as sterling crawled higher and the yen held steady against its rivals on easing concerns over Britain’s exit from the European Union.

2.40 pm: Gayatri Projects shares rallied over 4 per cent on Thursday after Hyderabad-based infrastructure and construction company bagged a contract worth Rs 306 crore for the four laning of a highway on the Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border. 2.19 pm: Nifty crossed 8,300 mark. The index was trading 101.95 points up at 8,305.

2.17 pm: Torrent Pharmaceuticals, one of the leading pharma companies of the country, has entered into a binding agreement to acquire the Vizag API manufacturing unit of Hyderabad-based Glochem Industries’ along with a few Drug Master Files (DMF) as a going concern on slump sale basis. The company currently has five formulation manufacturing units and with this acquisition it will have 3 API facilities for the regulated markets. Shares of the company were trading 1.09 per cent up at Rs 1,365.

1.39 pm: Meanwhile, Sensex reclaimed 27,000 mark on account of firm global cues. The index was trading 268 points up at 27,009.

1.30 pm: Sensex was up 251 points at 26,991 while Nifty was trading 78.65 points up at 8,282.

1.20 pm: Bond yields traded lower on Thursday as investors expect robust demand at the weekly debt auction, after the recent rally in prices. Meanwhile, investors got some comfort with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu’s statement that the government will seek to ensure that the bill on a pan-India goods and services tax (GST) will be passed in the upcoming session of parliament, scheduled from July 18 to August 12.

12.53 pm: In the Nifty pack, BHEL and Tata Motors were trading higher by 3.49 per cent and 2.79 per cent, respectively.

12.51 pm: Sensex was trading 154 points up at 26,895. Sentiment was bolstered on hopes that the long-awaited GST Bill may be passed in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.

12.22 pm: All the sectoral indices on BSE were trading in green. The BSE Realty index and BSE Auto index were up 1.55 per cent and 1.15 per cent, respectively.

12.09 pm: Geometric, a global leader in 3D CNC machining software has announced the availability of a revolutionary new technology that uses SOLIDWORKS 3D DimXpert and Model Based Definition (MBD) 3D dimensions and annotations to automate the programming process for CNC machined components. Shares of the company were trading 0.61 per cent up at Rs 222.15.

11.33 am: Drug firm Alembic Pharmaceuticals’ two API facilities at Panelav have been successfully inspected by the USFDA, the company today said. Shares of the company were trading over 5 per cent up at Rs 578.10.

11.08 am: Mahanagar Gas, which recently concluded its IPO will list on bourses tomorrow. Read more

10.45 am: Uttam Galva Steels were trading 15.14 per cent up at Rs 33,85. Sensex was up 201 points at 26,941.

10.34 am: Majesco shares were trading 1.89 per cent up at RS 539.35. Read more

10.01 am: Indian rupee firmed up by 14 paise to 67.54 against dollar. In the 50-share index, Grasim, Bosch, Ambuja Cement, HUL and Wipro were up between 0.18 per cent and 0.60 per cent. On the other hand, Tata Motors DVR, Larsen & Toubro, Hero MotoCorp, YES Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank were down between 0.24 per cent and 0.36 per cent. Nifty was trading 66.80 points up at 8,270.

9.16 am: The benchmark index Sensex was trading 213.63 points up at 26954.02. Uttam Galva Steels shares were trading 15 per cent up at Rs 33.80.

9.15 am: Sensex opened 185.78 points up at 26926, while Nifty opened 56.25 points up at 8,260.25.

PRE-MARKETS

Domestic stock markets are likely to open higher on Thursday tracking SGX Nifty and firm global cues.

At 7.53 am (IST), SGX Nifty was up 50 points at 8,258.

Asian peers, Hang Seng, Nikkei and Shanghai were trading higher by 1.50 per cent, 0.73 per cent and 0.08 per cent, respectively.

Wall Street registered gains for the second day on Wednesday as investors continued to scour for bargains and digest the fallout from Britain’s stunning vote to leave the European Union. The Dow Jones Industrial Average index gained 284.96 points, or 1.6 per cent, at 17,694.68. The S&P 500 index rose 34.68 points, or 1.7 per cent, to 2,070. The Nasdaq composite added 87.38 points, or 1.9 per cent, to 4,779.25.

The BSE Sensex on Wednesday climbed nearly 216 points on the back of a string of government measures aimed at reviving the economy and talk that the GST Bill may be passed in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.

The initial public offer Quess Corp subscribed 41 per cent on the first day of bidding on Wednesday.

Stocks in focus

Setco Automotive: Setco Automotive Ltd has informed BSE that the National stock Exchange of India Limited has granted its Listing permission to list and admit the equity shares of the company on its bourse with effect from July 1, 2016 under Symbol Code: SETCO.

Minda Industries: The company on Wednesday informed bourses that the board has considered and approved stock split of equity shares of the company. One equity shares of the company, having a face value of Rs 10 each will be divided into five equity shares of face value of Rs 2 each. Minda Industries has also approved Employees Stock Option Scheme 2016 – considering issue of 300000 options to the employees. Read more
