The BSE Sensex closed 224.03 points down at 27,835.91 following global cues. Nifty settled 58.10 points down at 8592.20. In the Nifty 50 index, BHEL, BPCL, GAIL, ITC and HCL Technologies shares gained between 0.96 per cent and 3.23 per cent. On the other hand, Wipro, Adani Ports, Idea Cellular, Zee Entertainment and Tech Mahindra slid between 2.09 per cent and 3.16 per cent. Market sentiment also remained volatile on account of August series derivatives expiry. Overall market breadth for the day remained negative and advances to declines ratio for Nifty stood at 15:36 for the day.
2.49 pm: Sensex slipped further and was trading 127.02 points down at 27932. Nifty was down 32.25 points at 8615. Engineers India shares were trading 4.78 per cent up at Rs 263. The company has registered 50.07 per cent growth in its net profit at Rs 80.30 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 as compared to Rs 53.51 crore for the same quarter in the previous year.
2.07 pm: Shares of Prabhat Diary were trading 6 per cent up at Rs 88.50. Sensex was down 82.43 points at 27,966. Nifty was trading 18.05 points down at 8,632.
1.38 pm: Sensex was trading 82.97 points down at 27976, while Nifty was down 20.90 points at 8,629.
12.54 pm: Welspun India shares were trading 2 per cent down at Rs 58.10. Shares of the company came under pressure again after US retailer Bed Bath & Beyond said it ordered an external audit of textiles from Welspun India. The market cap of Welspun India nearly halved this week.

11.42 am: Ramco Systems’ subsidiary – Ramco Systems, Singapore, has secured order from one of the top 5 most valuable global brands for Ramco HCM & Payroll in Asia-Pacific region (APAC). Shares of the company were trading 5.54 per cent up at Rs 542. Sensex was up 64 points at 28124.01. Nifty was trading 23.90 points up at 8674.20.
10.41 am: TV Today Network shares gained after the company entered into an Advertising Sales Agreement with Entertainment Network (India) (ENIL) on August 24, 2016, effective from September 1, 2016, duly approved by the Board of TVTN through circulation on August 24, 2016 in relation to TVTN’s three private FM radio stations at New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Pursuant to the ASA, TVTN has agreed to appoint ENIL as an agent of TVTN to facilitate the sale of TVTN’s airtime to third-parties who wish to advertise using TVTN’s airtime. Shares of the company were trading 2.13 per cent up at Rs 307.05.
10.02 am: Welspun India shares which hit lower circuit in early trade was trading 0.59 per cent down at RS 58.95. Sensex was trading 70.76 points up at 28127. Nifty was up 24.35 points at 8,674.
9.56 am: According to the data released by the NSE, the Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) stood net buyer of Rs 829.41 crore in index futures and options segments on August 24, 2016.
9.53 am: Indian rupee recouped by 3 paise to 67.08 against the dollar in early trade on Thursday on account of selling of the American currency by banks. Sensex was trading 65.08 points up at 28125. Nifty was up 23.15 points at 8,675.
9.19 am: Nifty was trading 21.35 points up at 8,671.65. In the 50-share index, Axis Bank, Bajaj Auto, HCL Tech, Eicher Motors and Aurobindo Pharma were up between 0.69 per cent and 1.14 per cent. On the other hand, Wipro, Bharti Infratel, Adani Ports, NTPC and Infosys were down between 0.20 per cent and 0.42 per cent.

9.15 am: The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty opened in green on Thursday following mixed global cues. Sensex opened 43.66 points up at 28,103.60, while Nifty 50 opened 18.55 points up at 8668.85. Markets are likely to remain volatile ahead of F&O expiry on Thursday.
Domestic equity markets closed higher on Wednesday on account of some buying in IT and PSU stocks. The 30-share index settled nearly 70 points higher at 28059.94.
Shares of Monsanto will remain in focus on Thursday. According to Reuters, Monsanto has withdrawn an application seeking approval for its next generation of genetically modified cotton seeds in India, a major escalation in a long-running dispute between New Delhi and the world’s biggest seed maker.
