Odisha government is preparing eight more mines for auction by the end of this fiscal. While the auction process for four mines will start by this weekend, four others will be put on the block in Janauary.
“We would be completing auction of 9 mines, including one iron ore mine which went to Essar Steel, during 2016-17,” state steel and mines minister, Prafulla Mallick, told FE. He said that the auction process of four mines — three limestone and one manganese mines —would be started by the end of this week. Four other mines including a bauxite mines would be put under auction by January 2017, he added.
Director mines Deepak Mohanty said the state government would issue a notification for the auction of four mines in a couple of days.
The state government has already auctioned one iron ore mine —Ghorhaburhani Sagasahi — so far under the amended MMDR Act.
ESSAR Steel had bagged the Ghorhaburhani Sagasahi iron ore block, which was auctioned earlier this year. The iron ore block having an estimated reserves of over 99 million tonnes (MT) is located in Koira area of Keonjhar district.
