Playback singer Sishtla Sreeramamurthy Janaki, popularly known as S Janaki, has become the latest victim of death hoax on social media. Rumour about Janaki’s death started making rounds soon after she announced her retirement from the music industry. The singer, popularly known as Nightingale of South, has retired from singing due to old age. Since Thursday morning, people have been sharing the news of singer’s death with condolence messages. Ever since she made the announcement, people misinterpreted the whole scenario and started spreading false news of her death. The singer’s death news came as a shock to many as she was seen in a pretty healthy state quite recently. Another playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who is a close associate of Janaki, clarified that the singer is alive and healthy. Balasubrahmanyam wrote on his Facebook page: “Since this morning lots of rumours about Smt. S. Janaki, the Nightingale’s health condition.
All fake. I just talked to her. She is hale and healthy better than ever. Spread the good news.I don’t know how some idiots do this mischief. Sadistic. Long live the queen of Melody [sic].” Janaki has bagged four National Awards and 32 state film awards, in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and Oriya. The singer has also won accolades for her work in Bollywood. Janaki has worked with popular playback singers such as Kishore Kumar, Amit Kumar, Mohammed Aziz, Suresh Wadkar, Bappi Lahiri and Udit Narayan.
