Millions of Americans, wearing protective glasses, and tens of millions of people across the world, through the digital medium, watched a rare space spectacle that happened across the United States – the first total solar eclipse to unfold from coast to coast in nearly a century. The Solar Eclipse began over Oregon and continued on from there as awestruck public watched in wonder the sun being obliterated right before their eyes and darkness enveloped the world literally at noon. The eclipse might garner largest audience in history. Quoting officials, Reuters said that Charleston County’s 16,000 hotel rooms were booked, and police expected up to 100,000 visitors to the area. People who arrived at  Charleston County to watch the scene expressed their excitement.

Nancy Conway, 57, an elementary school principal, said she made the long drive from Lynn, Massachusetts, with a packed car just witness the sight in person. “Twenty hours, three drivers, four adults, two 6-year-old twins,” Conway was quoted as saying.  “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” she added. Earlier, visitors got a bit nervous as in Depoe Bay, Oregon, just south of where the phenomenon just unfolded, a thick fog had shrouded the waters.  By 6 am, the eager visitors had taken every parking space along the sea wall by 6 am.
