The journey of Asha Devi, Nirbhaya’s mother was not an easy one but certainly an exemplary one. She lost her daughter at the hands of some brutal criminals on the fateful night of December 16, 2012. She had fought for justice till the Supreme Court finally awarded capital punishment for the perpetrators. Asha Devi did not see the worse coming when she had embraced her daughter for the last time. Since then she has come a long way, from a pious homemaker to symbol of justice. Nirbhaya was called as India’s daughter and Asha Devi has attained the status of mother who inspires India and will continue to do so.
On the eve of Mother’s Day considering her immense hardships, we behold her and applaud her for her determination to have won a battle against all odds for her daughter. Lashing out and slamming the liberals for debating against death penalty in a prime time show she handled every criticism as a fierce lioness. ”Many ups and downs came, I made them my strength. I was confident that justice will be done,” she said ANI.

Nirbhaya gangrape case had touched the lives of every individual in the country and we ourselves know how we have long waited for justice to prevail. We can never live in the denial of the fact that Nirbhaya’s case had the law makers thinking and amend laws following the gruesome rape case. Nirbhaya’s family’s fight against her daughter’s perpetrators encourages everyone. India came together to fight for her and it was Asha Devi who kept the fire burning and the judgement might have been some solace to her.
Though the whole idea of celebrating Mother’ Day is a little swanky since acknowledging their immense contribution to our lives just once in 365 days is underrating their value in our lives. Yet this tribute is necessary since she is not only an inspiration to the society but to each and every mother struggling for justice but is marred by superior forces. No one can compensate the pain she endures each time she looks at the garland clad frame of Nirbhaya but her win against evil has only given us a reason to find inspiration in her.
Asha Devi, we daughters of India thank you for your immense courage.
