Dear Zindagi collection worldwide: By Day 2, collection of this movie that stars Shahrukh Khan and Alia Bhatt in the main roles with the former essaying the role of the mentor and the later as a troubled girl who is looking to find herself in the sea of stresses and troubles that she finds herself in to save herself from sinking into a debilitating depression – it is SRK who pulls her out of the morass and shows her that life is indeed beautiful. This is not a love story, although the film refuses to explicitly reveal whether the two do eventually turn into lovers (he is over 50 and she is in her early 20s), the movie makes you feel many times that the two should throw caution to the winds and jump into the bed. Still, this is a film that has a restricted release and that kind of a thing may have elicited a frown from the Censor Board and other prudes, hurting the movie further. The possibilities were immense and Shahrukh Khan kept it clean to many discerning viewers’, especially the youths and the people on the wrong side of the 40s, dismay!
Barring the Censor Board mutilating the movie if that particular eventuality had come into play, Dear Zindagi would have been a blockbuster no matter that it released in just over 1100 theatres. mostly multiplexes. Since that was not to be, we have the movie making about Rs 20 crore in the first two days and eyeing a possible Rs 35 crore figure as its opening weekend collection prediction.
On the Dear Zindagi collection worldwide day 2 earnings front, Shahrukh Khan has powered the film to an overall (gross) Rs 25 cr figure (including Rs 20 cr from the domestic take). This is an approximate figure released and the final tally is yet to emerge. We may be saying SRK boosted the BO score, but here it must be said that Alia Bhatt’s performance has been memorable to the extreme – she outshined SRK in many scenes. She has come across as an extremely talented actress with a head on her shoulders that is far more nature than her years suggest. She is bound to get many roles in the future with directors looking to get the best out of her with scripts across a wide canvas of opportunities.
