After Karwa Chauth, another important festival for in the Hindu religion is Ahoi Ashtami Vrat. This year will be celebrated on 12 October i.e. on the eight day of the Kartik month, according to News X. The festival has its significance because mother having two sons observes fast on this day. On this festival, women draw a photo of Aahoi Mata on the wall and observe fast for the well being of their sons. On this occasion, puja is performed offering rice and milk during Ahoi Ashtami. Ahoi Ashtami is mainly celebrated in north-western part of India, as per News X.
Following the rituals of the festival, mother prepares variety of food like kheer, puri, laddu, halwa etc. According to Hindu religion, Goddess Ahoi fulfills all wishes of the devotees and blesses them with healthy and wealthy life. Women also prepare a variety of Indian traditional foods like puri, halwa, kheer and other sweets to follow the rituals of the festival.

According to one tale, a village woman had seven sons. In the Kartik month, she went to dig soil in the forest and accidentally killed a cub with her axe. After that, it is believed all her seven sons died one after another. With the incident, the woman went into depression and told her story to an old woman, said astrospeak.com. The old woman recommended her to pray to Maa Ahoi Bhagwati on Ahoi Ashtami.
Following the recommendation, the women drew a picture of the cub and offered prayers to it as well as Maa Ahoi. Praying and observing fast for seven years she finally got her seven sons back to life, according to astrospeak.com.

Mothers promise to keep Goddess Ahoi happy by keeping fast for their children. According to Hindu religion, Goddess Parvati is the one who prevents mishaps and saves their child from any difficult situation. In the morning puja, water is kept in a water container on top of a karwa, used in Karwa Chauth. The water along with rice is sprinkled to the stars, as per News X.
