Theatre lovers in the capital can rejoice, as Aadyam, Aditya Birla Group’s theatre initiative, returns with new productions spanning myriad genres.
The first among these is Purva Naresh’s Bandish 20-20000 Hz, which will open the festival on May 27 at Kamani Auditorium in the capital. “It’s a play about four artistes, two of whom are yesteryear singers from different disciplines. As they reminisce, they work through human politicking and generational and cultural gaps with the other two young artistes. They travel through time and look through life and relationships with renewed perspective,” says director Naresh.

The play will have a good mix of music, ranging from nautanki and baithak to a lively Bombay ditty dating back to the times of the Raj. “A trained dancer and pakhawaj player herself, Purva is constantly looking to conjure up ‘total’ theatre, one that subsumes every aspect of a production,” says Aadyam artistic director Divya Bhatia, adding, “One of the things we at Aadyam do is constantly encourage people who are doing good work, to improvise and think bigger.”
