At the Vivekananda Institute Of Professional Studies (VIPS), a certified institution affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, an event called Spandan is organised by the Journalism and Mass Communication Department, which is an an inter-college annual mega media festival and this is done every year since 2003.
Spandan aims to inculcate the skill of event management along with creating interest and awareness among today’s generation about the working of media and its importance. The highlight of the festival will be NEWSEUM, a three-day media exhibition. The theme of this exhibition is, ‘investigative journalism’.
With the aim of going inside the world of hidden realities, uncovered by journalists and media organizations , the exhibition attempts to give an insight into the amount of courage it takes to go into the depths of the complex scheme of things and what amount of risk is involved in revealing big names. A special place has been given to the recent “Panama Papers Leaks” making it the centre of attraction of the event.
To be held from 25th to 27th October 2016 at 10 a.m., the exhibition spans some of the landmark cases of investigative journalism like Watergate Scandal, Bofors Scam, Wiki Leaks, Aadarsh Society scam, Swiss Leaks, Nira Radia Tapes etc. The visitors will witness posters and photographs containing profiles of eminent investigative journalists like, Julian Assange, Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein, N. Ram,P. Sainath, Chitra Subramaniam, Gabriel Garcia Marquez , Arun Shourie, Ritu Sarin among others. Their own experiences have been given a place and what recognition and awards they have got are also there.
Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State, Culture and Tourism has been invited to inaugurate the festival. Varun Singh Bhati, bronze medalist at 2016 Summer Paralympic will grace the inaugural ceremony with Dr. S.C.Vats, Charman VIPS.
Dr. Charu Lata Singh, Dean VSJMC expressed satisfaction over the hard work put in by the students. “It is the students who organize the festival, generate funds and execute it”, says Dr. Charulata Singh.
