In a bid to spread the message of girls’ education and to promote handlooms, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s wife Amruta will be the showstopper fo a Pune-based fashion design institute at the New York Fashion Week. The event will be held on September 8 in Manhattan, where Chasa Institute of Design and Technolgy will showcase the talent of their young designers.
“I will be walking the ramp to spread the message of girls’ education as these designs have come from girl children who are daughters of farmers and porters. It is a novel initiative. I believe when we educate a girl child, we educate a family. And when the family is educated, the country moves ahead,” Amruta told The Indian Express.
Amruta will don a unique Indo-western wear in handloom designed by the students of the Institute. Most students of Chasa are children of farmers and porters.
Amruta, a banker says she feels “empowered” with the support rendered by her husband for such a cause. “With full support from my immediate family members, I can take up these causes and I am not bogged down by any criticism, especially from political quarters,” said Amruta.
Meanwhile, the models will sport dresses that will have placards stating the importance of education for women and aspects of the handloom industry of India. The show will be choreographed by Lubna Adams
“We would be showcasing 15 designs. Since I am myself from a rural background, our institute provides avenues to such girl children who dream to carve a niche for themselves. We are happy to have on board the CM’s wife who is the brand ambassador for this fashion show,” says Sanap, who has just started the institute.
