Vodafone Group’s chief executive officer Vittorio Colao on Thursday sought a predictable policy regime and fair application of taxes including the upcoming Goods and Services Tax, for providing affordable communications services in the country.

“Since an affordable telecom service is essential for digital inclusion of rural India, we requested a predictable policy regime with a level playing field and a fair application of GST and other levies,” Vittorio Colao chief executive of Vodafone Group said in a statement, after his meeting with the minister of communications Manoj Sinha.

During the meeting, Colao also thanked the minister and the Indian government for “several progressive policies and practices over the last couple of years, including the first mega spectrum auction,” that would allow Vodafone India to rollout its 4G services across the country.

“We reaffirmed our commitment to India and to supporting the government’s thrust on financial inclusion by expanding our M-pesa service,” Coalo said in the statement.
