YU Televentures, a fairly recent player in India’s mobile phone arena, has been drawing a lot of attention in recent months. Not only are the brand’s offerings known by unique names—Yuphoria, Yureka Plus, Yunique—take my word, we have reviewed some of their products and they deliver on performance and are truly worth their price. An indication of their growing popularity: Yuphoria had received close to a million registrations in its flash sales on Amazon.in; Yureka Plus too has developed an enthusiastic fan-base with over half a million units sold in a short period of time.

Adding to the growth momentum, YU has extended its service model offline to about 825-plus centres in 600 cities along with the on-site doorstep service across 283 cities. Through its on-site doorstep service, YU provides replacement for in-warranty customers and cash on delivery option for out warranty customers. With the offline support centres, customers can walk in for software support, drop their handsets and get replacement handsets at their door step.

Recently, YU introduced an affordable 4G HD LTE smartphone. It is called Yunique which retails for Rs 4,999 and available on e-commerce platform Snapdeal. It comes with a 4.7 inch HD IPS display, 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 and a 8 megapixel camera. To make it popular, YU has partnered with Airtel to provide Yunique users moving to Airtel, with a double data offer. What this means is that any new 4G Airtel SIM activated will be
eligible for an equivalent GB of data free, valid for 6 months. This offer will get activated from the day a consumer activates a new 4G SIM on Yunique.

Let us check out the finer details of this device; YU aims to sell half a million of these handsets by Diwali.

Switched on, I was pretty convinced that Yunique is equipped  with decent specifications and is sure to capture the interest of users looking to migrate to 4G technology. Surfing on 4G networks is said to be at least 5 times faster than 3G and enables the consumers to download movies, stream video and music, share photographs, surf internet and achieve much more out of their smartphones with great ease.

Yunique exhibits a seamlessly blended body design; each element of the device is thoughtfully aligned and adorned with the YU logo for an attractive device inside and out. The device is equipped with a 4.7-inch HD IPS display offering dynamic contrast and colour vibrancy. It runs on the latest Android Lollipop 5.1 operating system and gives users the access to a number of features including voice search, Google Drive, Hangouts for video calls, smart contact prioritisation etc.

Probing the innards, Yu Yunique is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 under the hood and the phone is adept at pushing boundaries with its 64-bit architecture by processing data at high speed. With 1.2GHz quad core processor, Adreno 306 GPU for graphics, Yunique is powered through the day with 2000 mAh battery.

A user can capture rich photographs with an 8 MP AF rear camera at f/2.0 aperture revealing sharper pictures with intricate detail. Taking selfies too is an easy affair with a 2 MP FF front camera for those keen on taking selfies. One can also keep precious memories safe and enjoy on-the-go access to files, music and pictures with 8 GB ROM and a 32 GB expandable memory card.

During the testing, I did not encounter any issue with this pocket-friendly phone. It is perfect for multitasking and efficiently runs applications of any kind. The call quality of the device is crisp and clear at both ends. It has a decent touch response, the camera quality is just about average. Browsing the internet on the device, watching videos, etc runs well on Yunique. You can even run flash heavy websites with ease.

All in all, Yunique feels sturdy and is a decent performer.
