Xiaomi Redmi 4 all set to launch in India today: live stream, specs, features & price

After the popular Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime smartphones, Xiaomi is all set to launch the Redmi 4 in India today.

After the popular Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime smartphones, Xiaomi is all set to launch the Redmi 4 in India today. Earlier, the Chinese smartphone maker, had indicated that it is gearing up to launch a new Redmi smartphone in India. This year, the company has already launched two smartphones in the country -Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4A. Xiaomi Redmi 4 with be the third phone in the market for 2017, and the company is hosting a live stream for this event, which is taking place in New Delhi. The live stream is on the Mi.com website and YouTube as well. We have to wait and see what the price of the smartphone will be, but it is expected that Xiaomi will be aiming for the under Rs 10,000 segment.

When it comes to specifications, the Redmi 4 features a 5-inch HD display along with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels. The phone is powered by the 1.4Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor with Adreno 505. In terms of storage, the smartphone features 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM.

Redmi 4 has a metal unibody design and curved 2.5D glass on the front. In terms of camera, there is a 13MP sensor at the rear end with PDAF, flash and the selfie shooter is of 5MP. The phone is fueled by a 4100 mAh lithium-polymer battery, with fast charging. In China, the phone has been priced at 699 yuan (around Rs 7,000). In terms of connectivity, Redmi 4 will come with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS, Infrared port, FM Radio, microUSB 2.0, and 3.5-mm headphone jack as connectivity options.

According to Canalys, Xiaomi is now the second biggest smartphone company in India. Xiaomi held on to its number two title for the second consecutive quarter in Q1, 2017 as it was declared the second largest smartphone maker in India in Q4, 2016 as well. Cheap Redmi smartphones have done quite well in the past and with the launch of a new ‘Redmi’ phone, the numbers are only expected to rise for the company.

Xiaomi recently opened its Mi Home store in Bengaluru, the first in India. Xiaomi Mi Home Store is an exclusive offline retail store, where the company will showcase its products including the Mi and Redmi series of smartphones. The store will also have Mi Air purifiers and other electronic accessories. According to Xiaomi, it is planning to open 100 similar Mi Home Stores in the country, in the next two years. Initially, the Redmi 4 device is expected to be sold through online platforms only.
