The mobile messaging app, WhatsApp has become an essential part of our day to day lives. The popular app has over 1.2 billion users across the world, with India alone contributing over 200 million users. This year, the app made some significant changes in the user experience and introduced several new features to enhance the user experience. Some of these features were loved by the users while others had to face criticism but irrespective of the public response, they did help WhatsApp to stay ahead of the competition. The platform’s beta versions have also been spotted getting many new features those are yet to be rolled out to the stable version of the messaging app. As we come close to the end of 2017, here is a look at all the features introduced by WhatsApp this year:
1. Delete for Everyone
The messaging app finally heard the voice of millions of users and introduced this new feature that allows the users to delete messages that have been sent by a mistake. This feature was rolled out only a few months back and is applicable to both individual and group chats. All file types such as messages, videos, images, files, etc. can be deleted using this feature.
2. WhatsApp Status
A huge change in the app that allows the text status to be replaced with multiple photos, a short video and text. Inspired by the Snapchat Status, all the media updated as WhatsApp status, disappears after 24 hours. The updated was criticised initially by the users but it has eventually become very popular.
3. Live Location
An interesting feature that allows the users to share their real-time location with their families and friends. This live location can be shared both individually as well as on group chats. For this, there is no need to use the app actively. There is a Live until option letting users restrict how long they want to be tracked by others and the maximum time limit is up to 8 hours.
4. Two-step verification
A major step when it comes to the security, this feature allows users to verify their number whenever they install the app on a new device in a more secure manner. Users can provide a six-digit passcode when registering their number with WhatsApp again.
5.WhatsApp for Business
Unlike all the other features mentioned above, this is a standalone app which allows the users to communicate with businesses they care about. The verified profiles will make it easier for businesses to reach out to consumers via WhatsApp. The verified accounts will get a green badge with a white tick next to their names. And, users will not be able to delete the sent messages.
