Twitter has appointed Omid Kordestani, a former chief business officer of Google, as its new executive chairman.
“Today we’re appointing @OmidKordestani to the Twitter Board of Directors to serve as our Executive Chairman! Omid is a proven and experienced leader, who will directly help and coach me and our leadership, and help us recruit the best folks to Twitter,” Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey tweeted.
Tha announcement comes a day after the microblogging site announced laying off 336 people as part of its restructuring efforts.
“A great chairperson is the first step towards continuing to make our Board one of the best in the world, and purpose-built to serve Twitter,” Dorsey said.
In response, Kordestani tweeted: “Excited to work with @jack, the Twitter Board, @adambain, @anthonynoto and the rest of the team to grow @twitter’s impact and business”.
Omid Kordestani joined Google in 1999, leading worldwide revenue generation efforts and operations of the sales organisation.
As Google’s chief business officer since 2014, he oversaw all revenue and customer operations, as well as marketing and partnerships.
After Google’s reorganisation into Alphabet Inc in August, Kordestani stepped down to take over the role of advisor at Alphabet.
