In a bit to make logging in more secure, Snapchat has introduced two-factor authentication to both its Android and iOS app.

The feature that has been rolled out with the latest update requires one to enter a six-digit code while signing in from a device that hasn’t been used before. The code is sent by Snapchat to the number linked to the account, reported The Verge.

The two-step authentication can be switched on inside the settings menu. Once the function has been set up, users can also store a recovery code, which could be used to retrieve the account if the phone linked to the account is lost or damaged.

Two-step verification is nice, but it can't hide the fact that SnapChat is one of, if not the most insecure messenger around. Even iMessage is more secure (but if security is a concern, you'll be better off using Threema or Wickr).
