A new Google widget alerts users whenever their names are mentioned on the Internet. The ‘Stay in the Loop’ widget has been reportedly made live in India. To access the feature, one needs to change settings of the widget to be informed. ‘Stay in Loop’ sends a report to user’s Gmail Ids when their names are mentioned on the Internet. One needs to log in to Google account and provide permission to Google to track Internet and App activities from the activities control menu. “Save your search activity on apps and in browsers to make searches faster and get customized experiences in Search, Maps, Now, and other Google products,” says the Activity Controls page. After Google has been granted permission to access Internet and app activities, the widget appears at the bottom of the search result.
One can switch on the app from activity controls menu after logging into the Google account. The widget can be further tweaked to get alerts on several topics including music, films, politics, games, technology and cars. You can also tweak the widget to receive all alerts in the form of a digest in a single mail. Google had announced the new feature in June. However, it has been made functional now. The tech giant has introduced several new improvements and controls in the My Account recently, including the one which helps people find their phones if it is lost or stolen.
