Microsoft is back in New York today on October 26, to host a special media event. While the event that Microsoft held last year was a mix of hardware and software, this year the focus seems to be more on innovation, 3D and software. Rumours about the event and what to expect, have been doing the rounds for a long time. These rumours suggested that everything is not silent on the Microsoft front. Speculations about upgraded hardware, Windows updates and many other things have been rife. The event name – Imagine what you will do – is very unclear and we have to wait to see how many of the rumours turn out to be true.
According to rumours and reports, some major updates to the Windows 10 OS is expected as well as in the Microsoft’s lineup of Surface devices and some more. Consumers definitely are glued and excited about the event’s actions, especially the expected Surface all-in-one device and the software updates to the company’s upcoming Windows 10. Here is what to expect and find out how much of the rumours will be true.
Surface all-in-one PC
The iMac rival is likely going to be the most notable and anticipated launch today. Microsoft has many laptops and tablets with the name ‘Surface’ but the latest all-in-one device is its attempt to redesign the desktop PC. The device is expected to have a big display ranging from 24 inches to 27 inches and it will be hinged to be laid flat on a desk. It will be interesting to see about the software used in the Surface device. Rumours of the use of touchscreen and Stylus support have also been doing the rounds. Microsoft’s Windows and devices VP Yusuf Mehdi took to Twitter and wrote, “Get ready to be creative,” suggesting a creative and innovative device. Apart from that leaked images reveal many new accessories for the Surface PC.
Windows 10 updates
Windows 10 is also going to be a highlight of the launch event, as it is expected to reveal details about at least two major updates to the operating system, one of which is likely to be arriving in March next year. ‘Insiders’ in Microsoft have been testing new features for some time, which includes trackpad changes which help users of Windows 10 to have full control of gestures on a trackpad. Customization is expected to be at par with the BetterTouchTool for MacOS. These changes have been a long time coming, especially for the trackpad. A ‘Home Hub’ tab is also expected which will help users in controlling Smart devices. Holographic shells are also something to look out for.
3D Picture and Paint
When it comes to creativity, Microsoft is likely to go beyond the hardware. According to a few leaks, the new Paint app, with its touch-friendly features will be able to make 3-dimensional objects. Microsoft is said to be creating a 3D ecosystem, with Windows 10 as the backbone. These ambitious projects might be revealed as real in the event today. Even the HoloLens headsets are expected to make an entry. It deals with virtual reality and augmented reality, and what better time than this to unveil the device.
Google Home and Amazon Echo competitor
Microsoft has been said to be planning the launch of a “HomeHub” feature in Windows 10 to control smart internet-connected devices. There have also been reports of a different “Home Hub” device with Cortana. With plenty of third party apps and specs integrated into Amazon’s Echo and Google ‘Home’ recently, there will be a tough competition for Microsoft and hence the need to use ‘Cortana’ in the best way possible.
