WhatsApp, the messaging app owned by social media giant Facebook, has new new functionality in its ‘Status’ feature. WhatsApp looks to be following the same path of Facebook, of making it a more engaging social media platform. New leaks by tipster WABetaInfo, suggest that the Jan Koum founded messaging app will finnaly allow its users to respond to Status update of friends. Users may also be able to mute certain Status’ from particular users. The new features appears to be a copy of Snapchat’ Stories feature.
WABetaInfo is a online place which looks for WhatsApp’s beta update features. It shared screenshots on Twitter which contained images from teh messaging app’s bets version fro Windows Phone 2.17.40+. The picture showed a button which can be used to mute or unmute status alerts. When you mute it, you will not be able to see the statuses of your contacts in your Status section. This new feature will reportedly arrive soon. You can also scan the unmuted list. In case you change your mind, you are also allowed to unmute the Status feature on the application.

According to WABetaInfo, you will also be able to have a conversation regarding the Status updates of your friends, which seems to be a feature borrowed from Snapchat stories. This functionality was seen in WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone 2.17.44+ version. Addtionally, the mute button was also seen on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.17.46 version also. Apart from this, according to recent reports, WhatsApp will add many other new features on its app regarding the Status option, including push notification and the enabling of Delete button.
