LG and Motorola have been bringing really different smartphones in 2016. First with the G5 series and then with the Moto Z series. Its unique modular design set apart these phones and was a good change from Apple and Samsung devices. However, a highly average exterior and bad battery did not make the G5 quite popular, but then the V20 device with its good looks and build, was a saving grace.
With an aim to make a comeback, LG is reportedly planning an amazing new smartphone, called the G6 which might come out next year. The notable feature of the G6 will be the introduction of the Iris scanner. Samsung had brought the feature earlier but due to the infamous battery-on-fire struggle, it stopped the production of the device. The Galaxy Note 7 had a dedicated IR-based scanner. But the new LG smartphone will have an ocular-based biometric technology using which it will be possible for the front camera to be more accurate and also decrease false rejection issue.
After Samsung and Apple, LG too will get its own contactless MST (Magnetic Security Transmission) payment system, according to Korea Herald. It could be known as LG Pay. Kim Ji-san, an analyst at Kiwoom Securities told KoreaHerald,”Unlike strong sales in home appliances and television, LG posted historical losses from its mobile communication unit this year. For a rally in shares, the rebound from G6 is important next year.” Interestingly, LG has decided to make the battery removable as it was in the G5 series. It will also introduce wireless charging and quick charge tech. When it comes to other features and according to rumours, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 CPU, 4GB/6GB and 64GB inbuilt storage will be present.
It is possible, that like its last announcement, LG will bring the latest smartphone G6 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) next year which is scheduled to be held in Barcelona from February 27 to march 2.
