Intex Technologies announced its entry into the wearable device market in India with the launch of iRist smartwatch at the first Mobile World Congress in Shanghai. Priced at Rs 11,999, the iRist smartwatch comes with a SIM card slot.
“The iRist smartwatch can be seen as a smartphone on the wrist,” said Keshav Bansal, director, Intex Technologies.
Intex is now looking to showcase itself as a global brand focusing on the local market. With this launch, Intex announced it will take part in major global events.
“Intex is now the second largest domestic smartphone brand in India. With over 80,000 dealers across the country, we sold 2.1 million handsets in June and have acquired a share of 10.5% in the local smartphone market. Intex aims to sell 15 million smartphone in FY 15-16 with equal importance to both online and offline sales,” said Bansal.
While smartwatches are yet to gain traction in the country, Intex is trying to reach out to the masses with the smartwatch. “Consumers who already own a budget smartphone will find good value in the iRist smartwatch. The device comes with a Bluetooth headset and has everything that one can expect from a smartphone along with some features of a fitness band,” added Bansal.
The iRist smartwatch is based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system and sports a 1.56-inch Sapphire Glass display. Powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Mediatek processor with a 512-MB RAM and 4GB ROM, expandable up to 32GB. It comes with a 600-mAh battery with 3G SIM support and a 5MP camera along with pedometer and GPS.
The device comes with a voice-assistant and an iConnect apps that sync with the smartphone if the iRist is used without a SIM card. The device will be exclusively available on eBay in early August after which it will be available at stores as well.
