Adding to the vast variety of application categories, in a bid to make the operating system more informative and user friendly, Google has now made it easier for users to access more specific apps. Android from Google, in the coming 60 days will extend its number of categories by 8. The Play Store will now have categories which were not present earlier. The new categories are ‘Dating’, ‘Auto and Vehicles’, ‘Beauty’, ‘Art & Design’, ‘Food and Drinks’, Parenting, ‘Events’, and ‘House & Home’. This will also better browsing experience for the user . Additionally ‘Maps and Navigation’ will be the new name of ‘Transportation’ and ‘Video Players and Editors’ will be the new name of ‘Media and Video’.
Sarah Karam, Google Play Apps (Business Development) wrote in the Android developers blog, “To improve the overall search experience, we’re introducing new app categories and renaming a few existing ones, making them more comprehensive and relevant to what users are looking for today.”
Google has also incorporated a ‘Family Library’, in which family memebers can share the apps purchased by a user from the Google Play Store. Any application, ranging from games to movies to books can be shared with upto six family members. All kinds of Android devices like smartphones, tablets and TVs are eligible for the sharing of the appa and there will be no charge if there is an additional signup.Google Play Music for music sharing can also be subscribed in the family plan. The family library feature which was introduced in iTunes by Apple 2 years ago, will be launched in Android devices in select few countries from American, Australian and European countries initially.
