Google has just updated its G Suite of apps which was earlier known as Google Apps for work. The G Suite will now have a few new productivity features. From upgraded voice commands to Slack integration for Google Drive and Google Docs, the G Suite now has a handful of new features. There is not much common between the updates, yet the features are mostly focussed on getting to support more of the current workflows in big companies and introducing Google products in the applications. Interestingly, G Suite has also partnered with its rival Slack. Google in its blog ‘The Keyword’ wrote, “We want you to be as productive and collaborative as possible, regardless of the tools you choose to work with, so we’ve partnered with Slack to make it even easier to work with Google Docs files.”

Spend less time figuring out who owns what with Action Items

Users will be able to assign any action item to an employee for follow-up in Docs, Sheets, and Slides. All one needs to do is type the name of the employee in a comment and then check the new box. Then the assignee gets a notification through an email notification where the action item(s) are clearly marked when opened. It also features something called ‘Suggested action items’ which uses artificial intelligence to automatically get action items which make it easier for users to create tasks, by detecting action items and assignees and then suggest them to the user.

Important file search made easier

After the assigning of the Action Items, Google has made it easier for team members to identify documents, presentations etc, especially the one which need immediate attention. When the members visit the Docs, Sheets, Slides (or Drive) from their laptops or mobile apps, “they’ll see a badge on any files with Action Items assigned to them, plus any unresolved suggestions that others have made to their files,” Google said.

Smart Forms to reduce time in creating questions

Using NLP (Natural Language Processing) G Suite has made it possible to detect patterns which enable the prediction regarding the type of question the user asks. It also suggests responses based on what the user types. This results in at least 25% increase in speed of form creation.

Better voice commands

Google is giving consumers a number of ways to format and customise content. The new commands include changing text colour, deleting words, inserting links and comments, and several other ways to format, hands-free.

Easier switching between apps

Users can save a lot of time, just by clicking on the “+” button in Slack. Users can import files directly from Drive, within a conversation with team members. They also have the option of creating new Docs, Sheets and Slides files right from Slack. Slack in its blog has put many details as well.
