Google has a weird obsession with fishes, as the codenames for its new smartphones have always followed a pattern. According to new reports, the global tech giant could be working on three new smartphones in the Pixel series. The new smartphones, probably the Pixel 2 lineup, is rumoured to be codenamed as Muskie, Walleye and ‘Taimen’. While reports on Muskie and Walleye have been doing the rounds for a few days, reports on ‘Taimen’ have just started to make waves in tech circles. It is expected that the smartphone will be a huge smartphone. According to a new report by Droid-Life, many sources have confirmed that Google is working on the ‘Taimen’ smartphone. Earlier information on the Muskie and Walleye was reported by Android Police.
There is a reason to believe that the ‘Taimen’ smartphone will have a very big screen. Whenever Google has rolled out its own smartphone, the codenames have been related to names of fishes. Additionally, it has been seen that the size of the smartphone has been complementary to the size of the fishes: Pixel (Sailfish), Pixel XL (Marlin), Nexus 4 (Mako), Nexus 5 (Hammerhead), Nexus 6 (Shamu), Nexus 5X (Bullhead) and Nexus 6P (Anger). Meanwhile, ‘Taimen’ is a much bigger fish than these fishes, so the smartphone could feature a huge display screen. The company’s previous big screen smartphone was the Nexus 6.
According to the report by Droid-Life, the new smartphone could be part of a different lineup altogether, and not the Pixel series. Google has also reportedly been working on launching some tablets. But the rumour does not specify what the ‘Taimen’ might be. Google has not commented on these reports, and it is a possibility that it is only trying out multiple variants of the Pixel 2 smartphone.
