Social networking giant Facebook and its subsidiary Instagram on Wednesday suffered a massive outage in different parts of the world. Users in some parts of the United States, Europe, India and Canada were unable to access their accounts on Wednesday as the social networking website faced technical issues. “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible,” Facebook was quoted as saying by Reuters.
Earlier in the day, DownDetector.com, a website which keeps a track of outages, showed that there were over 12,000 incidents of people reporting issues with using the social network. As per the data, fifty percent of the people reported having issues while logging in, while 40 percent reported that they suffered a total blackout issue. The remaining 10 percent said that they faced problems with pictures.
A number of users, who couldn’t log in to Facebook, received a message, “Facebook will be back soon. Thanks for your patience as we improve the site.” A hashtag ‘facebookdown’ trended worldwide on Twitter as people swapped social networks to check whether the service is really down or not.
