Snapchat, which just changed its name to Snap, will launch its surprising new product – Spectacles. Spectacles will be the first hardware unveiled by Snapchat, which will enable the wearable to let users take hands-free videos. Snap Inc has said that the glasses will be manufactured in little quantities. There have been a lot of rumours and speculations on the way Spectacles will work, and how similar will it be to Google Glasses which have had a bad fate. The online giant has unveiled a few features from which deductions can be drawn to find more information about the device. With an 115 degree lens, the sunglasses will be used to record videos from the user’s point of view. These videos will then be sent as snippets to other users who can, in turn, save them as ‘Snapchat Memories’. According to the reports, the glasses will be priced at $130, and will be announced in 3 colours: teal, coral and black.
When it comes to other similar features, Google had earlier launched the Google Glass, but those wary of trying out the new hardware by Snap will undoubtedly get a lot more than just those features. It is similar to Google Glass in many ways – only way cooler. The company had described in a blog post about the wearable, “sunglasses with an integrated video camera that makes it easy to create Memories.” Claiming that the glasses are one of a kind, said, “We have created one of the smallest wireless video cameras in the world, capable of taking a day’s worth of Snaps on a single charge. The snaps can later be stored in Bluetooth, Wifi etc.” In order to use this feature, the user has to tap a button near the left camera, and specifications record for 10 seconds of less. Up to 30 seconds each time, yet the additional taps get you 10 more. A light facing inside gets turned on while clicking the video or picture and also a light towards the outside is used to alert people in the field of vision, which must have been a big hole to fill by Google Glass. The videos can be transferred to mobile devices at any point in time. This device is a big deal and a great leap for Snapchat in the tech war against other social media giants.
The place where Spectacles wins over Google Glass is the pricing. Google had introduced the fantastic Glass with so much anticipation and adrenaline in a live display of skydiving to other extreme sports. The advertisement videos had suggested that the artificial intelligence will do most of our tasks, only to add that the worth will be around four thousand dollars. There are other areas like mountain bikers and skydivers who are travelling vagabond, yet they too wanted to get it, yet for them, there is the GoPro already. Earlier many Google Glass users were harassed by people because of similar reasons. There are other features like the 115-degree field of view. It is way different the normal 360 degrees, though it remains to be seen how the users react to eat. There is an intense competition from Instagram.
