If you think you’ve seen enough of the futuristic gadgets being showed off at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018, then you will be amazed to see a new product, straight from the house of Samsung. Samsung, at the CES 2018, took the centre-stage to unveil a massive 4K TV ‘The Wall’, which is touted to be the world’s first modular TV with a screen size of 146 inches. Samsung’s ‘The Wall’ TV sports a modular display technology that the company likes to call the MicroLED technology. Samsung has not divulged the price and availability of ‘The Wall’ yet.
‘The Wall’ uses Samsung’s MicroLED technology that is based on Samsung’s Cinema Screen technology. It was last seen on Samsung’s 34-feet 4K LED TV aiming to take on the screens used in cinema theatres. However, ‘The Wall’ targets the home users who want a theatre-like experience sitting in the warmth of their home furniture.
As we said, ‘The Wall’ is originally 146 inches diagonally in size with no bezels, but that’s not it. Samsung’s modular technology enables it to be expanded without compromising the performance. The reason why Samsung picked what seems like a random number, is to follow the standard ceiling height of houses. The MicroLED technology uses an array of multiple tiny LEDs to produce the image, unlike the usual LED TVs. The MicroLED used in ‘The Wall’ have the ability to turn on and off on their own, making it attain the infinite ratio of contrast. Similarly, it can also produce a very high brightness of up to 2,000 nits.
Samsung says that this technology will allow users to alter their television sizes according to their preferences. ‘The Wall’ was demoed at the CES 2018 as a prototype, however, Samsung promises to commercialise this product so that it can reach your bedroom to turn it into a movie hall. As we mentioned, the price of ‘The Wall’ has not been shared yet but this television is certainly going to be exorbitantly pricey whenever it will hit the marketplaces.
