Taiwanese device maker Asus has come up with a laptop that will not only go a little light on the consumer’s wallet, but will also keep them enchanted. We are referring to the G551JK machine, from the family of Asus’ Republic of Gamers series (ROG). This new G Series model comes with a Intel Core i7 processor and enthusiast-grade NVIDIA GeForce GT graphics card that can tackle all the load to help the user run today’s games smoothly at their highest settings. With a wide-angle IPS display and an 15.6 inch FHD Glare screen, it can provide gamers with Full HD visuals that takes the gaming experience to a whole new level.
Design: The G551JK features a matte-black brushed-aluminum finish with red diamond-cut edges, and bears an illuminated ROG logo on the lid. The keyboard design has been maintained in such a way that it is easy for gamers. The back-lit keyboard which gives off a red glow would make users think that it is a rip-off from the more popular rival laptop series but gamers know the utility of a back-lit keyboard especially when one is trying a new game and getting used to the controls. In keeping with the ROG theme, the G Series has a seamless one-piece chiclet keyboard and specially-marked WASD keys for easy navigation and gameplay.
Performance: If the consumer is already not impressed with the design, the specifications are sure to do the job. Like a young boy who wants to test-drive a sports car, you will definitely want to use the laptop after reading its specifications—yes the promise of more power and the power to do. The G551JK comes with an Intel Core i7-4710HQ (up to 3.5 GHz, 6M) which makes gaming smoother and also makes the laptop blazing fast. In addition, the 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz RAM makes copying files, running bigger games and installing any software bundle lightning fast. In a test scenario, the laptop churned out a 88 Mbps speed while copying 10 GB of data. Well, it not only churns speed at a turbo rate when compared to other laptops it also has a huge appetite—a 1 TB hard disk drive that has a speed of 7200 rpm. For consumers who are hooked to HD, a 6x Blu Ray disc drive makes it more sweet.
Display: Well gamers this is what matters the most, doesn’t it? The main driver under the hood. The G551JK comes with a 2 GB DDR3 dedicated Nvidia GTX850 graphics card that can run most games with the exception of a few that is out there today. Mind you the exceptions are very rare when it comes to the games. Is the screen capable of handling such graphics? Yes, the 15-inch screen can fetch up to a Full HD (1920 x 1080 resolution) display. The IPS display has a wide 178-degree viewing angles, so colour shift is minimised even when viewed from extreme positions in both the horizontal and vertical planes. Gamers are guaranteed accurate, lifelike colours that will further enhance their gaming experience.
Sound and connectivity: The laptop comes with the SonicMaster Premium tech which provides rich, crystal-clear high-fidelity audio while the ROG AudioWizard (in the OS pre-installed) features five easy-to-use preset modes with settings tailored to suit different game genres. Well if one prefers to wear headphones then they are in for a treat. The G551JK comes with a powerful headphone amplifier that the company claims has been fine-tuned by audio specialists in the Asus Golden Ear team for an even more immersive experience. Coming to connectivity, the G551JK sports a 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi module that accompanies the Bluetooth 4.0 module for faster wireless transfer.
Cooling and battery: With all the action in front, let us not forget about the cooling system. This feature surely impressed me. Like most laptops, this one doesn’t get heated up at all. Its almost-silent cooling technology keeps the laptop surface metal cold even after long hours of gaming. The battery of the G551JK is a 6-cell one but I have never seen a 6-cell dole out that amount of long charge so its quite good.
