Amazon has announced the India launch of the Alexa powered Echo smart speakers. The Amazon Echo price in India starts at Rs 4,499. India is the 4th country where Amazon has brought its smart gadgets. Amazon Alexa is a cloud-based voice assistance service and is in direct competition with Google Home and Apple SIRI HomePod. But the latter products are currently not sold in India by the respective companies. Smart speakers are a recently growing phenomenon all around the world. Buyers can get answers almost instantly to queries, set reminders, control lights and play music, among other uses of these devices.
By using cloud and Amazon Web Services, the Alexa Voice Service uses AI and machine learning to improve how it functions. Amazon Alexa is programmed to understand English with local Indian accents. At the launch event, Amazon Devices and Services Senior Vice President Dave Limp told PTI, “It has been about a year that we have been working on bringing in Alexa and Echo to India. Amazon Echo is a revolutionary device that is designed entirely around your voice.” He added, “Tens of millions of customers are already using Alexa… As we roll out Alexa and Echo into India, it will keep learning to enhance the experience of users.”
Amazon has recently been focussing a lot in the Indian market. Amazon launched the Prime Video service in the country in 2016 to lure customers with the latest movies and original content to build stickiness with the platform.
When it comes to pricing, the Amazon Echo Dot (the smallest device) will come at Rs 4,499. Meanwhile the Amazon Echo (standard version) will cost Rs 9,999 and Amazon Echo Plus (larger speaker than Echo) for Rs 14,999. Amazon said that you can send an invite from the Amazon website. The shipping will start somewhere around October 30. However, the company promised that soon users will be able to buy these devices without invites.
Apart from Amazon Echo, the company has also launched the Prime Music streaming service in the country. Amazon said that the service will be available for Echo customers for free, initially. It said that other Prime members will soon start getting it too.
Amazon has expanded its Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) too, a service which helps coders and brands can build engaging skills and reach millions of customers in the US, UK, Germany, and now India. Indian companies like Saavn, ESPNcricinfo, Goibibo, Syska LED, Zomato and Ola, are part of this project. This will help a lot in the future of Amazon Alexa in your homes.
