How many photos of yourself are on your phone right now? If the question was put to a youngster, chances are he/she would answer “innumerable”. Selfies—self-portraits—usually taken with a mobile phone are perhaps the easiest way of making one feel good about oneself. Thanks to the advancements in smartphone technology, we can now take a selfie and share them with thousands of people online at any time. This phenomenon of taking self-portraits might seem annoying to many, but the fact is this selfie culture appears to be gaining a firm foothold with each passing day.

Mobile phone makers seem to be capitalising on this selfie trend too. Recently, Chinese device maker Gionee unveiled a great selfie shooter. The front flash smartphone is called the Gionee S6s. Equipped with a powerful 8 MP front camera with Selfie Flash (High CRI), a screen that lights up to brighten pictures regardless of the light conditions and finger print sensor, the S6s promises to capture the best selfie moments in a fast and convenient manner. The phone is a mid-range device; it retails for R17,999 and is pretty adept at clicking good selfies, which you can share on Facebook or Instagram. Let us check the finer details of this device.

Out of the box, the Gionee S6s comes across as a sleek and beautifully designed device. It comes in an ultra-slim and attractive design. To put it in simple words, it is a work of art. The curved edges look beautiful and the phone fits nicely into your palm. The S6s phone has a solid and gentle 2.5D water-drop Corning Gorilla Glass with Native Damage Resistance. Put simply, it can withstand minor drops here and there. The device has a crystal clear 13.97 cm (5.5-inch) IPS FHD display, and once switched on, the S6s infuses the interface experience with amazing visuals. The phone comes in two colour variants, Mocha Gold and Latte Gold.

Looks aside, the S6s performs as your would expect from a feature-rich phone. In terms of actual usage, especially with respect to phone calls, voices were clear. There’s nothing to complain about when it comes to the simple act of making a call. Internet browsing is pretty swift and navigating through the user interface is a breeze.

Technical speak, the pixel size of the front camera sensor is 1.4µm which can catch more light in low-light conditions and make the picture much brighter. It is backed by a 13 MP rear camera with Sony IMX258 Sensor. The S6s supports both 4G and VoLTE, allowing users to connect with the world at a faster speed. It comes power packed with a 3 GB RAM, therefore, from a user point of view, the S6s can give users every reason to say goodbye to lagging. The 32 GB ROM and expandable memory up to 128 GB allows one to keep everything on the phone memory with enough space to store music, movies, photos and more.

With an operating system of Amigo 3.2 and Android Marshmallow 6.0, the S6s is extremely stable and user friendly. The phone comes with a powerful 3150 mAh battery. S6s has several inbuilt features like Video Editor with themed and professional edits. There is Gallery Trash which helps you relocate and restore deleted photos in the trash within seven days. Then, there is Gallery Hiding management, Desktop management, Image + (Face beauty, Real time filter, beauty editor) to record your life in a different way with more amazing features. Plus, there are video beautification, time lapse and text reorganisation features in the device.

My time spent using the Gionee S6s in the past two weeks has taught me that perhaps I don’t need to spend an astronomical amount for a high-end DSLR to capture precious family moments. The S6s can do the job pretty well. It is a great smartphone and has an innate quality to take some of the self photos. This smartphone can take pro-selfies in low or medium light. It can also easily click individual selfies as well as group selfies with ease. You may like to buy a selfie stick for clicking some cool group selfies. The best part: It comes with tools for instantly editing your images and making them better.

In summary, the Gionee S6s not only looks fantastic, it is also a great selfie shooter.
