In a big cheer for Apple iPhone fans, the Cupertino-based tech giant has slashed the prices of its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s models by as much as Rs 22,000. The move comes just ahead of the festive season, and more significantly ahead of the iPhone 7 launch in India on October 7. Now, the iPhone 6s (128 GB) costs Rs 60,000 and the iPhone 6s (32 GB) has priced at Rs 50,000. The prices of iPhone 6s Plus have been cut too, with the 128 GB variant costing Rs 70,000 and the 32 GB model priced at Rs 60,000. Not only that, for those who still prefer smaller screen smartphones, Apple has cut the price of its 64 GB iPhone SE model by Rs 5,000. The smartphone will now cost Rs 44,000.
iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus boast of 3D Touch and have a 2GB RAM. They come equipped with a 12-megapixel iSight camera, which is capable of shooting 4K videos. The front FaceTime camera is 5-megapixels. These iPhones will be eligible for Apple’s iOS 10 software upgrade. Meanwhile, Apple unveiled the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 at an event on September 7. In a first, Apple announced the India launch date as well. iPhone 7 will retail at Rs 60,000. At that cost, the launch price of iPhone 7 is actually Rs 2,000 less than that of Apple iPhone 6s! iPhone 7 starts from Rs 60,000 and goes up to Rs 80,000, the iPhone 7 Plus base variant costs Rs 72,000 and the prices go up to Rs 92,000.
The new iPhones have the much awaited quality of being water resistant! Not only that, Apple claims that both the phones have the “best-ever” cameras on an iPhone ever. Apple iPhone 7 Plus actually has a dual rear camera of 12 MP. The new camera system has optical stabilization, f1.8 aperture lens, a new six-element lens. The new 12 MP sensor, claims Apple, is 60 per cent faster and 30 per cent more energy efficient. Apple has also done away with the headphone jack, a move that would mean that the new iPhones would require wireless ear pods. The new iPhone will come in colours of Jet black, high gloss finish. There will be a second “new black”, called simply “black”. Gold, silver and rose gold colours will be available as well. With iPhone 7 (32GB) and iPhone 6s (128 GB) costing the same, we wonder if it actually makes sense to wait for the new smartphones, than go for the older variants.
