In order to take on emerging competition in the bus segment and to retain its leading market share in this segment, Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, on Friday inaugurated its first BusZone, an exclusive bus dealership near Chennai. This is the first such dedicated dealer showroom by any CV operator in India and it is also Tata Motors’ first outlet for buses.
The BusZone is an air-conditioned facility with a dedicated bus display area, offering dedicated bus sales, services and spares with a customer lounge and conference rooms.
Speaking to the FE over the phone here, Ravi Pisharody, executive director, commercial vehicle business unit, Tata Motors said, “It is a first of its kind initiative by any CV maker in India for buses. Though we have been selling buses through our existing truck dealers across the country, through this exclusive BusZone, we at Tata Motors are addressing specific and growing requirements of a bus customers by offering world-class sales and service support, exclusively for bus chassis and Bus bodies, all under one roof, through dedicated dealerships. This is one of the strategies to take on Ashok Leyland in the southern bus market.”
The bus segment – 4 tonnage to 16 tonnage – is growing at 15% per annum with an annual demand of around 140,000 units and Tata Motors hold leadership position with a market share of 45%.
