The Supreme court on Wednesday agreed to hear next week BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s plea against granting phase III licence to Red FM in Delhi and Mumbai circles.
He told a bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur that the channel was granted licence despite home ministry opposing it. “It’s a national security issue.”
Swamy said, adding that Red FM’s phase III license for Mumbai is slated to be granted soon.
Red FM, a part of Digital Radio Broadcasting (DRB), a part of the Kalanithi Maran-promoted Sun TV Network, had last year moved the Delhi High Court against the I&B ministry’s decision denying it a chance to participate in phase III FM auctions on grounds that the home ministry didn’t grant it security clearance.
The HC had allowed it to participate in the phase III auctions in July. Even the Centre’s appeal was dismissed by the SC in January.
