Aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju today warned airlines and travel portals of “strict action” if they did not refund taxes and levies to passengers for the cancelled tickets. Civil Aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju, in a series of tweets, said the practice of not refunding taxes and levies to passengers for a cancelled ticket was “against” the existing DGCA regulations and that he had received several complaints in this regard. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had last year put in place new passenger-friendly air ticket cancellation rules.

The rules make it mandatory for airlines to provide an unambiguous detail of the refund to a passenger. “I’ve received complaints that no refunds are being given by airlines/travel portals against cancellation for several ticket categories,” Raju said in a tweet.

“This is against existing DGCA regulations. All Govt. (sic) taxes and levies have to be refunded under all circumstances,” he said in another tweet. “Instances of such violations should be brought to the notice of DGCA and it will take strict action,” the minister tweeted.

In One case I have complained to Airlines for refund of cancelled ticket . They keep on saying ticket was issued as non refundable category ? Whereas nowhere on ticket it has mentioned such clause . I have also complained to ministry 3 times but no reply ? It seems ministry has no power to take action or may be they keep on ignoring so that complaint may get fed up and Stop. While fil an F I R against travel agent about fraud. First Travel Agent tried to convince Police official as Air lines does not refund how he can pay back ? When I insist what copy is being sent to Airline ? neither Airline nor travel Agent provided that copy which says ""NON refundable "" This clearly shows Nexus between Airline and Agent ? What customer is given ticket without Non Refundable clause nut copy sent to Airlines bears that clause ? So on insisting Travel Agent agreed to pay the ticket amount Plus Tax less cancellation charges But ministry silence shows they have no interest in such matter
