Talking at the Nasscom Product Conclave here on Wednesday, Snapdeal’s chief product officer Anand Chandrasekhar took a dig at Flipkart’s Big Billion Day Sale, saying many products were out of stock for 8-9 hours.
He also added that this would not have happened with Snapdeal.
“It doesn’t happen with us because we are an open marketplace. Whenever our sellers run out of stock we get those products available from other sellers that has the best bid,” Anand told FE on Wednesday.
He said shopping should be a comfortable experience for customers and not something that they plan excessively for.
“We don’t want them to worry or remember things like discounts will be available only on app. We don’t want them to wake up early at 4am and shop out of the fear of products going out of stock.”
Anand said every year the surge in online traffic caused by Diwali shopping frenzy becomes the new normal. “From that period on, that new traffic number becomes the base line.”
Meanwhile, Flipkart sent postcards to its buyers reminding them about the Big Billion Day and that it is happening on a app-only basis this time.
“Times change and eight years are a long time. We are thankful that your belief in us has remained strong as ever.
The Big Billion Days are all about cherishing this bond. So come join in the celebrations on the app because, honestly, without you it is incomplete,” Flipkart has said in the post card.
