Sanjiv Kapoor who quit Spicejet on Thursday and announced he was joining Tata-SIA joint venture airline Vistara has over 19 years of experience in the industry, having worked with airlines in Asia, Europe, and the US in leadership and advisory positions.

A day after he quit Spicejet, a Vistara statement says that Sanjiv Kapoor will be joining Tata group and Singapore Airlines joint venture airline as its Chief Strategy & Commercial Officer.

Sanjiv Kapoor will be assuming the role at Vistara in February, 2016 – at Spicejet, Sanjiv Kapoor held the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Kapoor will be succeeding Giam Ming Toh who is the Chief Commercial Officer at Vistara. Giam will return to Singapore Airlines on completion of his deputation with Vistara.

On the move to Vistara, Sanjiv Kapoor said, “I am delighted to be taking on the role of Vistara’s Chief Strategy & Commercial Officer. The airline has the best possible parentage in the Tata group and Singapore Airlines and with such wonderful genes, the world is its oyster. Indeed, it is already been talked of as the best full service airline in India, a testimony to the people and the leadership of Vistara. Given its laser focus on its people, product and customers, I look forward to working with Phee Teik and the entire Vistara team.”

A joint team from Singapore Airlines and Tata group had, two years ago, been given the specific goals to establish the foundation, the systems and processes for the Vistara airline. Giam Ming Toh, CCO, was deputed by Singapore Airlines in Nov 2013 to support Phee Teik Yeoh, CEO Vistara to set up TATA SIA Airlines Ltd. In less than 10 months, Vistara has scaled up to eight aircraft connecting 12 destinations with 297 weekly frequencies and flown over 750,000 customers.
