Reliance Industries Limited’s Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani today announced that starting from 4 December 2016, every new Jio user will get Jio’s Data, Voice, Video and the ‘full bouquet of Jio applications’ absolutely FREE, till 31 March 2017. Ambani unveiled the new offer while addressing employees and stakeholders of the company at an event. He also added that all the existing Jio customers will get extended benefits of Jio Happy New Year offer until March 31, 2017, on current SIMs. After several controversies and criticism from rival network providers, Mukesh Ambani informed , “In Jio Happy New Year Offer, we have fine-tuned our fair usage policy to ensure all users get a fair share of network capacity.”

Reliance Jio through its Welcome offer provides its users with unlimited voice and video calling, SMS and data, for free every day. A TRAI order had earlier said that the offer by Jio 4G should have ended by December 4, even the old customers will get added benefits till March 31, 2017. After Jio’s entry in the market, it reached the landmark of 50 million customers in just 83 days, even as other networks took years to reach it. While Vodafone took 13 years, Airtel achieved it in 12 years. Meanwhile, Reliance Jio which launched in September already had 16 million customers in the first month itself. Cellular association COAI has reported that altogether Vodafone had 201.9 million customers in October while Bharti Airtel had 262.67 million and Idea Cellular had 180.25.

Ambani is his speech said, “While customers have shown unprecedented love for Jio, we have not received the required support from existing operators.” He added, “The benefits of Jio’s superior technology have been denied to customers due to an anti-competitive behaviour of incumbent operators. In the last 3 months, nearly 900 crore voice calls from Jio to the networks of our 3 largest competitors were blocked.”

The company has reportedly become the country’s biggest operator to provide digital services with the highest number of mobile broadband users. It is even larger than Airtel’s 41 million 3G and 4G subscribers which it had acquired in 6 years. When it comes to just 4G, Jio user base is 5 times the base of Airtel and a whopping 17 times of Idea.
