Nisaba Godrej, the second among three children of Adi Godrej, is all set to take over on Wednesday as Executive Chairperson of the Godrej Group flagship firm Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL). In a significant announcement, veteran industrialist Adi Godrej on Tuesday said that he is handing over the baton of GCPL to Nisaba after leading the company for 17 years. Adi Godrej, 75, will now become Chairman Emeritus.
GCPL is the flagship firm of the diversified Godrej Group which has presence in consumer goods, real estate, appliances, and agriculture sectors, among others. Nisaba has been credited in the industry as the person behind GCPL’s financial success over the last decade.

-Nisaba is an alumnus of Harvard Business School. She shares her birthday with Abraham Lincoln and takes over the rein at a time GCPL is on the verge of breaking the 50% mark when it comes to overseas revenue. Share of overseas revenues in the company’s total revenue during the same period, similarly, has gone up from almost negligible to over 48%. It’s not a coincidence that the year she joined the company’s board – 2011 – GCPL went on an acquisition spree, acquiring Tura in Nigeria, Megasari in Indonesia and Issue Group and Argencos in Argentina.
-According to Financial Express newspaper quoting insiders, Nisaba is the one who ensured that the company never went overboard with its inorganic growth strategy. Her focus was on established brands in markets similar to India that would not require huge brand building expenses. She is also vociferous advocate of LGBT rights.
-Nisaba was the brain behind the company’s Project Leapfrog initiated in 2007 under which GCPL accelerated domestic organic growth through innovation and consolidation and at the same time went global by investing in emerging markets outside of India.
– Nisaba is also behind institutionalising design-driven thinking in the company and she directly leads product development. She has also been hands on in identifying and developing in-house talent for the group with an oversight of the Group HR function for Godrej Industries and associate companies.
– Nisaba’s previous assignments within the Godrej Group include successful turnaround of Godrej Agrovet and the creation of a group strategy function to oversee the group’s portfolio.
